Design Notes

This was the first official "Yeti Tech" course. Designed in 1999, it was installed at  a time when the nearest disc golf course was in Grand Rapids, about a half an hour away. This park was not my first choice for a location, I originally proposed a course in Kruse Park, another City of Muskegon Park further to the south that had more acreage, much more interesting terrain, and a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan. The City Parks Department rejected this proposal and offered McGraft as an alternative. So from the start, it was known that this would be a fairly short "beginner friendly" course in order to fit with the existing park amenities.

The course has had some changes since the original design. Holes #1 through #6 play around the tennis and shuffleboard courts and feature many large trees. Hole #7 plays down a toboggan run. Holes #8 and #9 play on a part of the park that was a burial ground for horses during the lumbering era. You need to cross McGraft park Road to get to Hole #10, which has a pond on the left side of the fairway. After crossing back over the park road, local players tend to play holes #11 and #14 along the creek bed before climbing the ridge up to play holes #12, #13, and #15, which play around some of the largest trees in the park. Hole #16 is a challenging downhill shot across the creek into a "jungle" area surrounding the pin. Holes #17 is a tricky uphill shot, and #18 is also a tricky short hole that has the creek around 3 sides of the green. The creek area holes can often be muddy or near impossible to play during heavy rain or snow melt conditions.
