Wild Haven is a privately owned disc golf complex and rustic campground located just south of the city of Manton, at the end of E. 18 1/2 Road 1/2 a mile east of Business US-131. You can see some of the baskets from the US-131 expressway, and you can reach Wild Haven from Exit 191 (the Manton exit). This 44 acre disc golfer's dream has two 18 hole courses up and running, combined with some rustic campsites throughout the rolling hills. More information and annual passes are also available through the Wild Haven web site: http://wildhavendiscgolf.com

Design Notes

This course was set up to take full advantage of the rolling terrain. You will find some very tricky pin placements all over this place. I don't think there is a single hole here that could be called "flat", but the elevation changes range from subtle to extreme. Wild Haven will certainly challenge your ability to throw various uphill and downhill shots, and the hills and valleys create swirling wind effects for you to deal with too. Most of the holes are currently in the open terrain, with a few strategically located trees, but there is a lot of room to "air it out" here. Much of the tree cover is pine and fairly young but will certainly become a bigger factor as the trees grow. Many improvements to the facility are planned for the future, with the next priority item being cement tees.

There are three tees on each hole (Gold = Long, Blue = Medium, Red = Short). The course is also designed to allow the player to play many optional short loops, ranging from 2 to 9 holes in length. There is also a massive "safari layout" currently of 10 holes, playing over 7270 feet (that's an AVERAGE of 727'+ per hole! Not for the faint of heart!)

Wildman's Burrito Guide  * #1 Place *

Herraduras Mexican Bar & Grill

1700 S. Mitchell St, Cadillac, MI 49601 (231) 775-4575

This discovery has now become my personal *BEST* Mexican restaurant ever! Not only is the food spectacular, but they also were on board early as a tee sign sponsor for Wild Haven (Hole #18). I highly recommend the Burrito Loco, especially if you are looking for a meal, its got everything you need. The cheese dip is fantastic, and if you like yours with a meaty kick, you have to try the choriqueso - cheese mixed with spicy sausage. The frozen margaritas are by far the best I've ever had. After a round or two at Wild Haven, Herraduras is worth the drive, and its fairly easy to get to from US-131 (Exit 177, then about 3/4 of a mile north). They have plenty of space for large groups as well, this will be a gathering spot after events at Wild Haven for sure.
